Small World

My dad’s friend works in the city

You told me your parents live in

Half a world apart in Africa

On the shore of Lake Victoria

Such an awful feeling inside me

Being connected to you

In all these little ways

Only if this wasn’t the case

The family living across my building

Hailing from your country

Or the one person in class

Sharing your name and your crass

I would rather not have ties

With you or our past

But the world won’t accept it

The small world that we live in
