To the ones who don’t know her, she is Lilly Singh, aka IISuperwomanII. She is a YouTuber and a unicorn, and aside from being hilarious, she has moments when one bows down and says “Preach”.
In her latest video, she spoke about how she apologised for not wearing make up, and after some thinking, retracted the apologies like the total boss that she is.
I don’t think there is one girl who doesn’t identify to what she had to say. Personally, I feel like I cannot step out of the house without wearing my eye liner, because it enhances the almond shape and I feel confident. But on days where I don’t apply eye liner, for whatever reason, I don’t owe you an apology, much less an explanation! And I do tend to forget this basic fact, and hell yes I have apologised to people for looking like I do, which I do deeply regret.
And no, I am not as confident as Lilly is. But she reminded me that it is indeed okay to not look picture perfect, that flaws are acceptable and not something I should apologise for. I shouldn’t have to think twice before leaving my house in the ruffled up hair, free of make up, wearing the baggiest clothes I own. I shouldn’t have to obsess over how I look. I have the right to be myself and not feel the least bit guilty or pathetic about it.
Ladies and gentlemen. You can dress up, dress down or not dress at all. You are perfect, and you don’t have anything to be sorry for. Lilly gently nudged the fact into my head, and I felt it was my duty to spread the word.
